Navigating the Teenage Years with Positive Discipline

What: This 8 week class provides an opportunity to learn new tools and skills to communicate with your teen or preteen that will be effective both in the short term and long term. Prepare Your Teen for Their Future

(3 separate classes that can be taken together)

When: Saturdays April 11, 25 & May 9th 2015 from 10am-1pm

Cost:  Each session is $24 before Feb 23 ($28 after early bird speacial)

​FREE Teen Mom Parenting Class (with Positive Discipline)

What: Free 6 week parenting series helps teen moms learn more about their child’s behavior and new ways to set limits with kindness and firmness. The class also covers safety around the home, car, feeding, sleeping, and bath time. Open to all moms up to 21 years old. Moms can also be pregnant or already have a child. Embodying Positive Discipline

What: Turns out that the vast majority of our communication is nonverbal, between 70-90%! This 3 class series teaches you to HOW to get your message across, not just with your words, but with your body posture, tone of voice and other forms of nonverbal communication. Based on the parenting philosophy of Positive Discipline, it focuses on learning how to actually practice and embody the core concept of being kind AND firm at the same time. Open to parents who already have had some experience with Positive Discipline. This class is fun, engaging, interactive and involves full participation. Stop struggling and see what a huge difference transforming your communication can make across all your family relationships!

Class #1: The New Territory of the Teenage Years

Feel like your child has changed overnight and no longer listens toanything you have to say? This class explains why that is by offering parents greater knowledge of this new developmental phase.   Explore what you want for your child and gain a clearer perspective on how to navigate what lies ahead.  Learn about the changes occurring in the teenage brain and the importance of brain function for clear communication.  This class also teaches simple and effective tools to gain cooperation and encourage participation in the family, the household and future aspirations.When: Sat., July 12th, 10 am – 1 pm

 

Class #2: Preparing Your Teen for Their Future Class

Learn how you can help prepare your teen for their future as you move from the pilot’s seat into the co-pilot’s seat. This class will explore the changing role parents must play as their teenagers individuate.  It also addresses how to develop your teen’s sense of intrinsic motivation so that they become active agents in preparing for their future.  Understand how to avoid parenting from a place of unresolved issues of your own past.  Develop communication skills to promote cooperation, and help build accountability and responsibility!When: Sat., July 26th, 10 am – 1 pm

 

Class #3: Parents & Teens Together, Setting the Course

The final class in the series invites the teenagers to attend with their parents. Having both parents and teenagers in class is an opportunity to explore ways to work in partnership on mutual goals. Together, they will practice establishing routines for studying and family life with family meetings, and making agreements on issues of importance.  Both parents and teenagers will learn tools for improved communication and see change as a continuum with opportunities for the future.When:Sat., Aug 9th, 10 am – 1 pm

 

Summer Parent Support Group: for Parents of Kids

What: This is a monthly meeting where parents of school-aged children can share their challenges, concerns, problem solve together, and find support.  These groups are based on the principals of Positive Discipline but will be led in a support group format versus an instructional class series.
When: 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month, July 2 and 16 and August 6 and 20 2014, 6:30-7:30 pm

Discussing Difficult Topics with Positive Discipline

What: Sex, drugs, death, divorce, abuse–these topics are difficult to deal with personally let alone talk about with your children. Using a parenting method called Positive Discipline, this 2 series class helps you address whatever subjects you find most difficult to discuss with your kids. These moments often bring up our own fears and challenges. However, when facing some of life’s toughest struggles, there’s no need to do it alone. Find support in addressing these topics thoughtfully, learn developmentally appropriate responses, and experience a process that you can use with difficult topics in the future.

What: As part of Central Coast Early Care and Education Conference, Stephanie Tam Rosas will be offering a workshop about Attachment Theory and how early relationships can help develop the building blocks for future success. This workshop also offers Positive Discipline strategies to work with children who have developed insecure attachment, and ways to create secure attachment as a caregiver.

Positive Discipline & Trauama in the High School Setting

What: As part of the teacher staff training at Costanoa High School, this workshop covers trauma informed care using the Positive Discipline method. Topics covered include belief behind the behavior, attachment theory, levels of trauma, how to create a safe space, self regulation and boundary setting.
