Counseling
Due to the Coronavirus and current safety risks,
all sessions are being held online via Zoom.
As a licensed marriage and family therapist I offer counseling for all ages, but specialize in working with children and teens, and have been a therapeutic counselor in k-12 schools since 2014.
My work with youth varies depending on what is needed and can involve any of the following:
-
Relationship building through conversation, games, and stories
-
Art and play exploration to help children understand and express their thoughts and feelings
-
Tools for stress reduction and emotional regulation
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) where we shift thoughts and associated beliefs and behaviors
-
Mindfulness teachings on meditation, movement, mindset, practice, and values
-
Communication skills development and ongoing practice
-
Confidence development as clients experience ongoing success in overcoming challenges as we face their fears together
-
Assisted practice to solidify the transfer of tools and skills from therapy, into clients' everyday lives
-
Perspective taking which can include learning to build empathy and appreciation around other's perspectives, and/or a deeper understanding that clients' own experiences are not necessarily individual incidents, but are shared by others

Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson didn't set out to explain why Positive Discipline (PD) is so effective, but that is ultimately the result of their book “The Whole-Brian Child”. Many of PD’s core concepts and approaches have worked with families already, but the science behind them gets further explained in how they ultimately promote brain integration.
