Services

As a licensed marriage and family therapist I offer counseling for all ages, but specialize in working with children and teens, and have been a therapeutic counselor in k-12 schools since 2014.

My work with youth varies depending on what is needed and can involve any of the following:

  • Relationship building through conversation, games, and stories

  • Art and play exploration to help children understand and express their thoughts and feelings

  • Tools for stress reduction and emotional regulation

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) where we shift thoughts and associated beliefs and behaviors

  • Mindfulness teachings on meditation, movement, mindset, practice, and values

  • Communication skills development and ongoing practice

  • Confidence development as clients experience ongoing success in overcoming challenges as we face their fears together

  • Assisted practice to solidify the transfer of tools and skills from therapy, into clients' everyday lives

  • Perspective taking which can include learning to build empathy and appreciation around other's perspectives, and/or a deeper understanding that clients' own experiences are not necessarily individual incidents, but are shared by others

Length & Fees

  • Sessions are $185 for 55 minutes

  • Given that sessions are currently online, I also offer 45 minute sessions at $150 for younger children under 8 years, when appropriate.

Counseling vs Coaching?

Having trouble deciding whether you should do

therapeutic counseling versus parent coaching? Below are some distinctions that might help.

Parent Coaching

  • short term

  • focuses on techniques and solutions

  • teaches Positive Discipline concepts and tools

  • helps parents address challenges through brainstorming and problem solving

Counseling

  • can be longer term

  • focuses on addressing past experiences which can include the way you were parented

  • addresses deep-rooted patterns and potential changes needed in the family system

Still unsure? Call for a free 15 min. consultation and we can figure it out together! 831-920-4589

Positive Discipline

Positive Discipline is more than just a parenting method, it's a whole Psychological orientation to human development. Based on the core belief that children need to feel

belonging and significance, Positive Discipline teaches parents to work with their children respectfully by being kind and firm at the same time. It focuses on parenting with the long-term in mind and utilizes practical techniques that teach responsibility, problem solving, and intrinsic motivation.
